Earthquake Victims' Relief Effort

Update September 2025

Report on Myanmar Earthquake Disaster Fund

We are pleased to share the progress of the Myanmar Earthquake Disaster Relief Project, supported by the Malaysian Buddhist community.

With the completion of the solar panel installation in August, despite the challenges of heavy rains, affected households now have access to reliable light and energy. Please see the photos below, as well as the [Facebook link https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1GxgevN5uY/?mibextid=wwXIfr ] for more updates.

We sincerely extend our gratitude to Dr. May Moe Nue and her dedicated team for their tireless efforts in making these projects a reality. This project took place at Amalie’s mandalay

Project Funding

• While the total fundraising amount was higher, the total funds sent to Dr. May for this project came to RM 143,000 (≈ USD 33,600).

• Equivalent in Kyat: Ks 151,200,000 (no exchange loss).

Fund Utilisation

1. Solar Energy System – Installed for the benefit of affected households.

2. Water Purification System – Ensuring safe and clean water for daily needs.

3. Remaining Balance – Used for household goods and Buddha statue donations, together with contributions from other donors.

This project demonstrates the compassionate support of the Malaysian Buddhist community towards our brothers and sisters in Myanmar. May the merits of this act of generosity bring peace, comfort, and blessings to all.

The water purification system has been successfully installed, providing the community with a sufficient supply of clean drinking water.

Due to heavy rainfall and ongoing aftershocks from the earthquakes in Mandalay , the installation of the solar system has been slightly delayed.

I have to thank you all for generous donations for the people of Myanmar 🙏🏻. Especially the Malaysia Buddhist Community, the solar system for all those houses and water purification system.

The remaining balance was used for household goods and Buddha statue donations, alongside contributions from other donors.

Yesterday, the Fo Guang Disaster Response Team, led by Venerable Zhi Shuan and Quah Bee Fong, President of BLIA Central Malaysia Dongzen 6th Sub-chapter, arrived safely in Myanmar with a team of 11 members, including two doctors - Prof. Chin Kin Fah and Dr. Lim Chi Pei. They brought along 350 kilograms of medicine, food and essentials, ensuring their personal luggage was kept to a minimum to maximise their aid efforts.

In the afternoon, they headed to the main market to purchase nearly 3,000 kilograms of additional medicine and food supplies. To access to the disaster area, they not only needed visas but also an invitation letter issued from the local officials, which is crucial for the smooth entry into Mandalay for their relief work.

At 5.00am this morning, the team set off to Mandalay in a big bus. The journey was challenging, with many roads around the disaster area damaged and cracked, resulting in a lengthy 12-hour trip to reach their destination.
